Brave New World This is, of course, the title of a famous book from Aldous Huxley. However, more and more, the content of this book is in danger of becoming a reality. It is the technology paradox: the more it grows, the less people are necessary for making a business profitable. It is the year 2020 and the gap between the occidentalized world and the third world grows bigger and bigger. Africa is now an outlawed continent, facing a global embargo imposed by the World Economic Alliance. A continent closed in himself, exception made for certain locations, abundant in resources, that were overtaken by big corporations such as Chevron, who outcasted local leaders establishing new frontiers with the help of well armed mercenaries. As for the civilized continents (as so they are called in the 2020 year) technology is prompting a revolution on social values and human relations. It is without surprise that a study promoted by GoogleStats shows evidence that more than 60% of the marriages celebrated last year, started on the internet. A brave new world indeed. |
