OSx86 Future 2005: Apple considered releasing a generic version of OSX86 (working on all PC compatibles), but concluded Microsoft would jump up and crush them with all the marketers and lawyers and in it''s arsenal, so it was a bad plan. 2006: OSX86 runs only on Apple hardware. Nothing had change - Microsoft doesn’t care, everyone still using Windows.(Now Vista) 2007: A large number of people is now pirating the OSx86. Microsoft still won''t react since they have nothing to react against. However, many pirate users are using the MacOS and enjoying it. 2008: Apple Mac sales are up big time, due to, some say, pirate OSx86 happy users that decided to get serious (some got older and some took the OSx86 to their workplace - Microsoft used this trick before...) 2009: Apple decides it''s "unofficial" installed user base is large enough for them to deploy a generic OS and still survive Microsoft''s retaliation. End result: more tasty Apple goodness but with the advantages of PC or Mac hardware too. Steve Jobs wins! |
