22 years ago, Richard Dawkins, emminent British zoologist and evolutionary theorist, suggested that a second replicator (in addition to genes) existed that explained human cultural evolution. Dawkins suggested that the term "meme" be used. The coined word uses the same root as memory, remember and the French meme (same). Memes are units of cultural transmission that are subject to natural selection.
