Human Souls! Posted by Rex on 09-Jan-2005 - Day(s) left: 32298
1338 people have seen this prediction.
By the end of this century (2000 - 2099).
Human Beings will know whether we have a soul or whether our brain controls everything.
At the moment our soul and our spirit are open to debate but I believe there are two ways in which scientists will prove whether there is a soul or not.
1. Human Cloning.
At the moment we have only cloned a sheep and its very difficult to tell if one sheep is exactly the same as another and whether they are thinking the same thoughts. They probably are... Shall I eat grass. yes. Well thats not science thats what sheep do.
If humans are cloned then what if...
The clone thinks exactly like the original. This would prove we have no soul as physically all the aspects of the clone would be the same as the original.
Alternatively if the clone behaves differently from the original we have every right to suspect the clone is a different human with the exact same brain therefore a soul would exist.
2. Brain transplants.
Even if human cloning does not go ahead the chance of a brain transplant must be increasing. Every other kind of transplant is in operation.
Now this leads to two theories....
If the brain from Victor is put into the body of Harry who would Harry be when the brain is inserted.
If the person acts like Harry always has then it proves our brain only works our body and not our mind. (we have a soul).
If the person acts like victor then it proves the brain is everything to us.
Therefore if either of these events occurs we will know if we have a soul or not!!!!
I believe a good deal of credibility to the idea of a soul will come from the most unlikely source: Science.
As we unify more and more of science it will start to be clear that some form of logic may be responsible for everything we observe. Furthermore the distinction between thought and matter will dimish.
I developed a very rudimentary theroy based on a connection between logic and physics.

You obviously don't know very much about cloning. All they do is transplant the nucleus of a cell to another. Then when the second cell grows into an organism, they should be the same. However, the two are by no means identical. There are many things that are NOT encoded in our DNA and simply develop by chance. Examples include blood vessel patterns, fingerprints, etc. Your basic mistake here is that 'clones' are indentical when in fact they are not.
