I wish to discuss why the speed of light is both a relative and a constant. The fact that the speed of light is a relative stems from the fact that gravity's effects it.
Einstein said: where time slows down so does light. All physical processes are geared to the speed of time. Where time slows absolutely everything slows including light.
But at the same time light's speed is a constant; but your clock and your ruler are changing. This is the space-time metric. Light moves at a constant unchanging speed in a changing space-time metric. The space-time continuum is changing in gravity. It is curving and the metric is shrinking.
Look at the Shapiro effect. There is a slight pause to light. This bears the fact that light slows in gravity. This also explains the advance of the precession of the perihilion of Mercury.
Light is both a constant; and is a relative because of gravity.
Light is a relative in gravity because of the shrinking of the metric. If time slows all motions slow in that slower time. And relative to slower time there is faster time and faster motion. Motion can appear to increase without limit if your clock is going slow enough. It is all relative in that way.Mitch Raemsch
