GR and Gravity Posted by Nick on 25-Mar-2006 - Day(s) left: 1982
2209 people have seen this prediction.
Einstein said that in gravity where time slows down so does light. It is known that in gravity time literally comes to a halt at the surface of a black hole; at its event horizon. Light will then slow down on its approach to a black hole and come to a complete halt on its edge. Nothing could go in; light or matter. There is no more time to move in.
This simple thought experiment proves that gravity is wrong in the case of black holes. The extreme of gravity is instead seen to be with limit.
Einstein sought a way out of the complete collapse that results in this extreme of gravity but wasn't succesful.
Stephen Hawking has pointed out GR's failure in the case of black hole singularities. He missed the failure at their edge. Einstein talked about it but never fully realized it. Einstein's General Relativity will have to be modified.
Time slows down for anything on approach to the surface of a black hole. This slowdown of time in gravity effects light. Light gets slower in the slower time. Since time is said to end at the event horizon light would come to a complete stop there and couldn't go in. That is the substance of this prediction. It is the proof that black hole physics doesn't work.
As Richard Feynman said: the problem in physics is to find the problem.

If slowing time by gravity slows light then we would have to wait for light comming out of strong gravity. The delay is due to the effect of time slowing on light.
