While being initally crestfallen at the changes Joss Whedon appeared to make to the personalities of the characters without any type of explanation as to why the doc suddenly grew a pair, and Mal was fighting back harshly, I ended up becoming enthralled with the movie recently released Sept. 30.
One thing that kept me on my toes was that it didn't have the appearance of a usual sci fi movie (hokey special effects, scenery, etc.) Instead it seemed extremely real to me. And I'm a fan of some movies that have that stuff.
Adding to the realism, was my inability to predict what would happen next until just before it happened. Usually within the first 15 min or so of a movie I can predict the entire progression of the plot. Not here. It wasn't until about 15-30 minutes from the end that I had a pretty good idea of what would happen, and even then there were a few surprises.
A true science fiction film beginning to end. I truly enjoyed it.
