(This topic didn't seem to belong in any other board, except maybe politics.)
I have taken Ritalin in the past, and am currently on Adderol, a less addictive Ritalin-like drug. What if the American government has illegalized marijuana simply to increase sales of domestically-made (I believe) Ritalin and its spinoffs? Compare the hallucinogens: both addictive if used repeatedly. Both lead to mental depression. Ritalin and Ritalin-like drugs, like marijuana, cause something of a dreamy sensation, especially if used after not being taken for a long time. I could go on. I guess I'm just a wannabe conspirational theorist, and I'm no medical expert, but it does make you think. How is one illegal and one not, especially when the South American-made drug is less addictive?
No truth to that at all. In fact the American tabacco company's have long had plans to mass produce marijuana if it ever becomes legal. If the marijuana laws were ever lifted, give it a year before American tabacoo company's dominate the world in marijuana production and sales.
However they would most likely out-source the actual farms to 3rd world countrys for cheaper labor. But most of the profits would still flow to the states.
also this post really doesn't belong in predictions. But it doesn't fit anywhere else on the board either. You guys should start just a general "open discussion" topic.
If this topic is not considered a "prediction", then let's make it one:
If, as you say, the tobacco companies are prepared for the legalization of marijuanna, then it would be in their interest to pursue lobbying for its legalization. With the amount of capitol the tobacco companies can generate, their lobbyists would have very little intervention in state/federal goverments. And as for an image problem, remember, these are the same companies that are willing to sell a cancer-ridden, highly-addictive form of drug to the mass populace already.
If a prediction is to be made: Pharmicutical companies are already on the verge of becoming as strong as the tobacco companies in drug production. With the current trend in rising health-care, the drug industry is/will become the new tobacco. I would "predict" that if the tobacco companies wish to stay on top of the capitol chain in drug production, then their best interest would be to create a drug to prevent/cure/treat cancer. Then sell these drugs to the pharmicutical companies for shares of those companies. Thus, the tobacco industry stays on top of the capitol chain as they started in the beginnings of our country.
The problem with predictions of this ilk is the fact that both down to the Kyoto Summit for global reductions in CO2 emissions and from the reports of people that work in heavily smoke ridden atmospheres (like pubs, bars and social clubs) having a higher chance to suffer cancer, currently most government legislation is set to attempt to reduce smoking across the board.
This means larger Anti-smoking campaigns, Public smoking bans and perhaps even legislation to reduce cigarette manufacturers physical stock (not financial). Of course Governments haven't outright banned the sale of tobacco but this is because of the usually large tax premium thats placed upon the products and of course the money made from privatised companies attempting to deal with health issues caused by it, not to forget the fact that a Legal method for Eugenics to keep the population numbers down.
This is just the considerations of Tobacco, when you start looking at Cannabis you have to then identify what the drug can do to people. (It actually increases the chances of generating a variant of Schizophrenia that is not curable by wonder drugs, which in turn causes Doctors and Psychiatrists to attempt to "fix" people through the suggestion of particular non-effective drugs.
I personally suggest that Cannabis should never be fully legalised, it should however potentially be allowed to be a Control substance through decriminalization but only to generate specific treatments for certain sufferers of currently difficult to treat ailments, which would require a doctor justifying it's application (not a drug user scoring their hit).
