The concept of AI will reach the level, in about 10 to 15 years, where robots will be able to perform the jobs currently undertaken by humans; like those of telephone operators, house keeping, driving, etc. The role of humans will be reduced to a bare minimum in most cases. With all the lack of jobs these days, what will be the future of the poor people looking for work to earn a living Question

Phone Operator has already kind have been taken, for instance in the UK you could dial "1471" and the system will tell you the time and potentially number if it's available of your last caller. It's alot of sound snippets put together to generate the voice, and the speaking clock has been going for years.

As for Driving, There have been many research projects in that area, In the US they were attempting to place sensor equipment into road furniture and in Europe they were attempting to but the "brains" into the car (Notibly Benz)

However a computer operated driver would have to deal with the rigors of "chaotic and sporadic human components" since not everyone will want a computer doing the driving for them. This makes it very difficult, for instance a sporadic movement could be misinterpretted as a collision course so the question is "how should an AI react?" If it swerves it might crash, or cause one by stopping etc

You could then suggest that if everyone knew the computer would react in a specific way that if such "drivers" were fitted to Armoured Cars or Prison transports that it would be possible for people to "Jack" them easier.

I think that won’t be a problem as the AI of those days would be THINKING. They would be able to analyze and draw conclusions like we humans do so a change in the original scheme of things such as a human making a mistake during driving or breaking rules in the course would be something the AI would be able to handle....but I must admit its going to take a while to develop such AI Confused
