It's usually refered to as Gas Power Regeneration.

For instance I have ties with such a company that has a patented system for efficiently combusting waste gases in the area of Landfill, Water treatment, Barge Degassing, Octane Tank Degassing and Mine Degassing.

"Flare Systems" are necessary as at least a backup in Power Regeneration, as if the generators need to go offline such Environmental Summits as Kyoto caused laws to be placed on the emission of Greenhouse gases, This sets to stop the original method of "Venting" the gases in such emergency conditions.

It is possible to create electricity from Gases that are outputted from for instance "Landfills", however the usual problem is finding a buyer for the electricity since the electricity generate can not be stored or travel too far.
