The only thing within that article I didn't agree with was the assumption of further matrix movies to expand the franchise. I doubt there will be any. We have TMO and rumors of an animatrix 2 but I highly doubt that we will see any further sequels to the Revolutions.

Well, I would say there is something to this theory.
It was brotherly/platonic love for Morpheus that saved the day in the first film and led to Neo becoming the One.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
It was Neo's romantic/irrational love for Trinity that saved Zion in Matrix Reloaded.
Ephesians 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
And it was universal/agape love for everyone in Zion and the Matrix which led Neo to sacrifice himself at the end of Revolutions.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
And the last line of Matrix Revolutions, in the words of the Oracle: ...I believed...I believed.
The philosophy of "love", in general, is not really about the object but about the subject.
There are those who seriously love money, power, sex, alcohol, food, corporation or work, property, land, race, friends, family, nation, athletics and so on. This diversity of the objects in which diverse people believe as being their meaning of life or what life means to them, is called by experts "The zenith of the scale of values". What this means is that every one builds a scale for his/her own value system as he/she grows up. The zenith of the scale is what one would value most and almost worship if not explicitly worship. The subject behaves systematically in reclassified manners towards such an object, such as obsession, devotion, fanaticism and even sacrifice.
If corporation was at the zenith of your value system scale, then your sacrifice for the corporation is definitely out of love, but if it was not then you shall never do it.
Since your values are yours and my values are mine, then if you judge my behaviour, then what I do out of love to you might seem utter stupidity, so it is personal.
However, there are also social trends in which many people share the same value system and especially those who belong to a specific faction such as a religion.
That is why you shall find such a verse in the Bible that encourages, blesses and exalts sacrifice for its own value system.
I stopped seeing stupidity in the convictions of others due to my deeper understanding out of long experience. I might not agree with them and do not approve their system of values, but I too have my system of values, which I expect others to respect. Therefore I must respect the freedom of others to believe in whatever they wish as much as I have such a freedom, as long as the convictions of others are not satisfied by taking away my freedom from me.
