The British English teacher that taught me English is to blame for my distaste for the word "Prediction" that sounds like guessing without standing on a foundation.
I prefer the more scientific word "Estimation" that must be founded on premises and facts.
If common usage of the word "Prediction" today have bypassed divine profecy and fortelling then it is my bad.
Let me know your thoughts.

Estimation to me sounds rather quantitative rather than qualitative. I would stick with prediction.

For once I tend to agree (and yet disagree) with Nick.

Estimation is quantitative. Hence, it should be a weather estimation because it is based upon data.

Prediction is less scientific. Hence, I could predict some things based upon very weak data, but mostly on my interpretation of that data.

Prophecy is prophetic. Hence, it is based off of nothing more than one's apparent commune with a higher power (be it gods or demons or whatever you want to call it.) Prophecy requires faith. Even when prophecy comes true, it require faith to believe in the next prophecy. The Bible is full of prophecy, with an incredible track record (I would say 100%) of prophecy being fulfilled in it's appointed time, yet there are still prophecies to be fulfilled and it takes faith to believe they still will be.

This can be a long discussion. But to be precise:
I feel 'prediction'. We are not estimating here. Estimation can be part of prediction.
I just joined Zapfuture, and I like your writing and 'predictions'.

I agree. It's all about "predictions". And welcome here, RealHelp4U.
