My favorite book of all time is Frank Herbert's Dune. It is amazing to me the political, economic, and cultural detail that went into his creation.

I love the movies (the longer one and its sequel Children of Dune). Of course, if you haven't read the books I don't think it would make much sense, but I think they did a great job for the fans.
